From IoT to AI Native: fifteen years of technical trajectory

Artificial intelligence didn't arrive by chance in the group's know-how. It is the endpoint of a chain that starts in industry and runs through IoT, Edge Computing and managed IT services.

It is tempting for many companies to treat artificial intelligence as a break — a technology bolted onto what already exists. The group's technical history suggests a different reading: AI is not an isolated break, but the latest layer of a coherent chain built since 2009.

That chain starts in industry — structural metalwork, boilermaking, mechanics, automation — where the founding principle takes shape: observe a system, capture information, process it, act on it. In 2014, that principle carries over into the Internet of Things: designing devices and embedded systems, capturing and transmitting data from the field.

The proliferation of connected objects then imposes a new constraint: data cannot always travel to a central system. Computation has to happen as close to the ground as possible — that's Edge Computing, which brought the group closer to infrastructure: Linux, servers, networks, monitoring. That evolution naturally leads to managed IT services, then application development, to cover the whole chain, from sensor to application.

Artificial intelligence fits into the continuity of that path rather than outside of it. It is not treated as a feature bolted onto existing software, but as a layer that integrates into the whole system already built — data, infrastructure, applications, automation, decision, learning. That continuity, more than the technology itself, is what constitutes the group's principal know-how today.
